 Muniz awakes each day when the sun dips below the horizon. He lies back to enjoy the slivers of dying sunlight snaking over the ceiling, the only kind he can still bear to look at without scorching his retinas. For a few seconds, it paints the frigid interior of his house in a haze of dull gold. He stretches his limbs to chase away the last vestiges of vampiric slumber. Nightfall floods the world.
